Vocalist, bass player and arranger from Kingston Jamaica, he first came to attention as a member of Byron Lee?s Dragonaires in the late 60s. Stints with Bunny Lee?s Aggrovators and Derrick Harriot?s Crystalites followed. He was very influenced by US funk and his epic version of Booker T and the MG?s ?Melting Pot? became a huge hit on the New York disco scene. His first UK chart hit was in 1970 with ?Elizabethan Reggae?, which reached no. 14 but in 1986 he would have a UK number 1 with the ballad ?I Wanna Wake Up With You?.
