Johnny Osbourne

Jamaican singer, he started out in a group called The Wildcats who recorded for producer Winston Riley in 1967 although the tracks were never issued. They then recorded a single at Studio One, ?All I Have Is Love?. In 1969 he recorded ?Come Back Darling? as a solo artist for Riley ? it was a huge hit and an album of the same name soon followed and the record got Riley?s fledgling Techniques label off to a flying start. However, on the day the album was completed Johnny emigrated to Canada to join his family. There he sang with various local groups before joining the group Ishan People, with whom he recorded 2 albums. When the group split up in 1979 he returned to Jamaica where he began recording again for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One and the fruits of these sessions were collected on the seminal ?Truth And Rights? album, an instant classic. Throughout the 80s he continued to record at Studio One but had hits with many other top producers too, particularly King Jammy and Bobby Digital.
