The Dance

The Dance were a great punk funk band from New York's underground downtown scene of the late seventies and early eighties led by singer Eugenie Diserio and Steve Alexander, both formerly of the Model Citizens.

Other band members included Jim Martin; Louis Watterson; Fred Maher, who also played with Material and Scritti Politti; and Robey, who had only just finished highschool when he played drums on the band's In Lust album. He has described how the Dance were "thrust together in an early 80?s melting pot of race, funk, sex and mood altering substances"!

Eugenie and Steve had been art students in New York and Steve is currently a painter and art professor, while Eugenie went on to make millions by creating a horoscope website!

The Dance are featured on the first volume of our New York Noise compilations and fans should check out the other volumes for more great New York punk funk from Bush Tetras, The Bloods, Certain General and more!
